Batosathi
Closed beta

Watch the road. Hear when it changes.

Landslides, floods, closures, heavy rain and wind, on the route you are riding, before you reach it. Not an official forecast.

A check that changes nothing sends nothing. When 30 September at Beni turns from Watch to Breach, one message reaches you before you reach Beni.

The problem

A careful rider checks DHM warnings, Department of Roads notices, police notices and three weather models by hand every evening. Batosathi does that for the route and dates you give it, and tells you only when the answer changes.

How it works

  1. Add legs on the map

Type a town or tap the map for each day of your trip, up to 12 legs. Batosathi works out the road route, including hill sections.

  2. Set your limits

Choose the hill rain and gust levels that matter to you. Cross one and Batosathi tells you.

  3. Pick channels

Email, browser push, Discord, ntfy or Telegram. Every watch uses all the channels that work.

  4. Hear when it changes

A message when the answer for a day changes, not a daily wall of data.

Reading the route strip

Towns sit on an asphalt line; each gap is a day, coloured by the answer. Solid days come from an official DHM warning, hatched days from weather models.

When official data is down, the day says "Official warning unavailable" with the last good time.

Where the answer comes from

Official sources outrank models, always. Models fill in the weather between official warnings.

Batosathi is not an official forecast. Follow DHM and your District Administration Office.

Alerts that respect your evening

You get a message only when the answer changes. Quiet hours are 22:00 to 05:30 Nepal time, except a Breach within 24 hours of travel, which comes through regardless. At most 6 immediate messages per watch per day.

  • Morning message

At 05:30 NPT on a travel day, you get that day's legs before you set off.

  • Evening digest

At 19:00 NPT, every watch with travel within five days gets one digest, including "No change since yesterday".

Questions

Is Batosathi free?

Yes. It is a closed beta right now, and there is no price.

Is it an official forecast?

No. Follow DHM and your District Administration Office. Batosathi reads their warnings and never gives a road the all-clear.

Which roads does it cover?

Any road in Nepal that the OpenStreetMap network covers, with DHM warnings applied to the districts it crosses.

What if DHM is down?

The strip shows "Official warning unavailable" with the last good time. Model data still fills in, marked as model, not official.

How do I stop the alerts?

Delete the watch, or remove a channel from Your channels. Deleting your account removes everything.

How many messages will I get?

One digest in the evening, one message on a travel morning, and immediate messages only when the answer changes, at most 6 per watch per day.

How do I join the beta?

The beta is invite-only. Ask hello@batosathi.com for an invite code.
